Frequently asked questions:
How do I get to church? Where do I park?
First United Methodist is located at the corner of E. Jefferson and N. Dubuque Streets in downtown Iowa City. Our address is 214 E Jefferson Street. We have visitor and handicap parking in the alley off of Dubuque St. The rest of the congregation finds street parking. The parking meters are free on Sundays all day. Please read the parking signs closely, even on Sundays.
Quality infant and toddler care is available on Sunday mornings from 7:45am- noon. The nursery is located on the main floor of the education building in room 103.
Children’s Sunday School is located on the 2nd floor of the education building for grades 1-6 at 9:15-10:15am.
During the 10:30 worship service, children are invited up to the front for Young Disciple’s time for a special story about the scripture lesson for the day. Children are always welcome in worship regardless of the noise they may or may not make.

5PM Daily Bread Dinner Church
Participants gather for a freshly made meal where the conversation serves as part of the sermon. We are made up of folks of all ages, all backgrounds, and all orientations- but we all share one thing: a desire to grow closer to God and to one another. Interested in coming for a visit? We’ll set a place for you.
How we treat visitors
If you come in any of the doors and make your way to the second level, you will be greeted and warmly welcomed by members of the church. We will not ask nosy questions, make you stand up, or anything like that. But, we would ask that you fill out the attendance pads in the pew and talk to one of the pastors before or after our service. Any information you are willing to share is very appreciated.
Our Theological Perspective
If you are interested in joining the church, please contact one of the pastors and they will be able to provide you with more information about when the next membership class will be held.
Do you want to be in conversation with a real person before the first visit? Email one of the pastors! We love meeting new people (in person or online) before their first visit.
