Job Description:
Congregation with developing college ministry program is seeking a dynamic and passionate fulltime Director of Campus Ministry who will, as part of an Intergenerational Ministry Team, have primary responsibility to foster Christian community, promote spiritual growth, develop future leaders, and build connections between the church and local university community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Elder, Deacon, Diaconal, Licensed Local Pastor, or laity in the United Methodist Church, with leadership experience in young adult or college ministry. Applicants with other denominational affiliations must be in good standing with their respective organization.
We are looking for an individual who embodies the following:
- Passion:The ideal candidate should have a deep passion for campus ministry and a heart for college students. They should be enthusiastic about sharing their faith and creating meaningful connections with young adults.
- Vision:Our Director of Campus Ministry should be forward-thinking and able to envision innovative ways to reach students. They will play a crucial role in shaping this ministry’s direction and impact.
- Skilled with Group Work:Demonstrated skills at working with diverse groups, including students, volunteers, and church members. Strong communication, effective collaboration and interpersonal skills are a must.
- Student Engagement:The Director should be someone who can draw students to our ministry. Whether through creative events, relevant programming, or personal relationships, they should be adept at engaging students and making them feel welcome.
- Long-Term Commitment:We desire someone who will invest in our campus ministry for the long haul. Building relationships and a sustainable program takes time, and we hope the Director will be with us for an extended period.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Enhance, continue to develop, and implement a vision for campus ministry that aligns with the mission and values of First United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation
- Develop leadership skills and opportunities.
- Provide spiritual leadership and direction.
- Provide opportunities for study in Christian doctrine, religious beliefs, Bible study and denominational theology and social principles.
- Lead and empower student leaders to facilitate group activities, discussions, and events that promote spiritual growth, community building, and service opportunities.
- Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment that attracts students from diverse backgrounds and fosters meaningful relationships.
- Collaborate with university faculty and other campus ministries to integrate common initiatives with broader church programming.
- Provide pastoral care, support, and guidance to students as they navigate the challenges of college life and explore their faith journey. Connect students with appropriate resources.
- Utilize creative outreach strategies to connect with students on campus, in the community, with other campus ministries and Iowa Annual Conference congregations to promote awareness of the Wesley Foundation activities.
