Children and Family Ministry at First United Methodist Church, Iowa City is committed to building community among the families and friends of FUMC, Iowa City, the Church, and the world. We aim to create a safe place for all children and their parents to explore their relationship with God, and to discover what it means to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ in the world today.
Participation is open to all children and their families, regardless of membership or family membership to First Church, IC.
All are welcome to participate in activities as they are, without exception.
Children’s Sunday School
Each Sunday from 9:15-10:10AM, all children Pre-K through Fourth Grade are invited to Sunday School. We all meet in Room 205 for large group worship and songs and then break out into our age groups for small group relationship building and activities. Here at First United Methodist Church, Iowa City we use a Sunday School curriculum, Group’s Inside Out that uses Bible lessons, video clips, art projects, and a whole lot of excitement to teach great biblical stories and to help kids apply biblical themes and lessons to every day life.
Confirmation (8TH & above)
Confirming your faith, on your own, is an important step in a life of discipleship. Here at Iowa City First, we encourage all those in Eighth and Ninth Grade to participate in Confirmation. Confirmation is a year-long commitment during which you will be required to attend class, special events, trips, as well as fulfill a few other requirements. It’s not as daunting as it sounds -- it’s actually a lot of fun! This year, we will be meeting (almost) every Sunday afternoon from 4:00-5:30 pm.
Disciple Bible Study
Disciple Bible Study is a committed study on the Bible and Christian theology to make disciples of Jesus Christ to transform the world. By learning, practicing, and discipling for the kingdom of God, the 32 week long journey will prepare you to become disciples who are willing to share the good news that everyone can be transformed into a new being in Christ. Through this study journey, we will also delve into deeper questions on Christian life: How we live our lives as responsible Christians.
Into the Word into the World (Genesis-Exodus/Luke-Acts) will be taught Mondays from 6:30-8:00 P.M. in Room 204.
Be encouraged to take this opportunity as a journey to the Biblical world as well as to the spiritual world where we will discern God’s will in our lives. Please contact Pastor Heecheon Jeon at firstname.lastname@example.org or 319-338-5075 for further information and registration.
